Arenal Volcano Hike Combo-Observatory Natural Hotsprings
On this very complete tour you get to know the Arenal volcano, it´s surrounding nature and the Tabacon hot water river. We start with a 45 minute drive going into the mountains next to the Volcano. Our destination is the viewpoint of the Observatory lodge which is located at the Arenal´s most active side. From the deck of the lodge you enjoy the panoramic view of the volcano, the jungle, Lake Arenal and the distant mountains of Monteverde. In the daytime you can see the clouds of dust created by the volcanic rocks and on occasion witness a piroclastic avalanche.
After spending some time on the deck we start our hike into the tropical forest that surrounds the lodge. In this tranquil environment its possible to observe various types of birds and see wildlife like monkeys and wildcats. Our experienced guide is there to help spot and explain about the different flora and fauna you see. Following the jungle trail we pass hanging bridges and get to a beautiful waterfall. Here we relax for a while and you´ll have the chance to swim in the pool at the foot of the fall or give yourself a healthy volcanic mud treatment. After some more hiking we stop at the volcano museum. This small but informative museum shows pictures and gives explanation about the history and the working of the volcano.
We are back at the lodge on time to see the sun set over Lake Arenal. With the light gone it´s the perfect time to watch the lava rocks smash down the flanks of the volcano. Being one of central America’s most active volcanoes it is likely that you will see plenty of lava. For everybody to enjoy the spectacle sufficiently we will stay at this comfortable viewpoint for over an hour.
Done watching, we get back into the minibus and go to the Tabacon hot water river. Lit by just flashlights we walk to the river and get comfortable in one of the natural pools. This fast flowing river is heated by the volcano and has a very nice temperature. It´s a perfect place to hang out with fellow travelers or to find an intimate hideout and enjoy the serenity.
When ready we get back to the bus and we take you to your hotel.
Departure time: 2p.m.
Duration: 6 to 7 hours
